10K Training

The 10K is a very popular race distance in the US and abroad. Everywhere from small towns to major cities host at least one or two of these events each year. The distance lends itself to a variety of racing venues from road races, to trail events, to cross country at the collegiate, club and general level. Even novelty races like “mud runs”, “obstacle races”, “color runs”, etc. have started to incorporate the 6.2 mile distance.

The 10K is a unique event in that it is the last standard distance before one might move up to its big brother- the half-marathon. This makes it a critical stepping stone for runners trying to extend their endurance towards the longer events, and perhaps even take a leap of commitment to complete a marathon.

Regardless of your goals when training for a 10K, the event is a rewarding challenge that can serve as an end-goal and take you one step towards your fitness or distance running aspirations.
