Health & Injuries

Running is supposed to make you healthy, right? A strong heart, lean muscles, a higher level of aerobic fitness and much more. But a logical question remains: why do so many runners get injured?

Being a runner doesn’t mean that you’re invincible. Every runner’s body ebbs and flows. Don’t let a few aches and pains or even injuries deter you from the great sport of running. Be rest assured that there are solid strategies you can use to drastically minimize your chance of injuries, speed up recovery time, and enjoy a host of healthy benefits of running.

If you’re looking to stay healthy and avoid injuries, you’ll want to gain a basic understanding of running mechanics. During a run, your body is doing some work. Without optimal muscle balance and joint load, you may be putting pressure where it doesn’t belong. Eventually, that part of the body will break down.

Your weekly mileage and the difficultly of your workouts matter, too. Ramping up too fast or too soon can cause some serious problems. Any runner can be prone to overuse injuries, from Olympians to weekend warriors.

You only have one body, so if you want to be a lifelong runner, you’ll need to treat your body like your baby. With the resources on this site, you’ll be able to learn how to safeguard your body against common running injuries and stay in tip-top shape even amidst the most difficult training.
